Fellows
Fellows are high school students driving $10,000 community projects—and shaping the future of education.
Fellows are at the heart of NewComm’s mission. Selected for their leadership potential, they apply Math, English, and Science skills to develop and execute high-impact projects that address local challenges. In doing so, Fellows not only transform their communities but also gain essential experience for college and beyond.

Fellows Learning Journey
-
NewComm’s 4-week summer program is where ideas come to life! From July 1 to August 1, you’ll join a dynamic community of students from across NYC to dive deep into learning and action. Through interactive workshops and real-world problem-solving, you’ll develop the skills to design a $10,000 project that tackles challenges in your community. Collaborate with peers, engage with expert mentors, and connect your English and Math knowledge to create solutions that leave a lasting legacy. By the end of the program, you’ll not only have a project plan but the tools and confidence to lead meaningful change.
-
After the summer program, the NewComm Fellowship continues with a year-long journey where you’ll bring your $10,000 community project to life. Throughout the school year, you’ll participate in weekly virtual meetings to sharpen your Math and English skills and ensure your project stays on track. Once a month, you’ll attend our Community Design Studios, where you’ll collaborate with your team of Members to refine ideas, tackle challenges, and execute your vision. Along the way, you’ll receive mentorship, guidance, and support to develop leadership skills, build meaningful connections, and make a lasting impact in your community—all while preparing for college and future success.
-
As the year comes to a close, you’ll move from planning to action, leading your team to execute your $10,000 community project and witnessing the real-world impact of your work. This is your chance to bring your vision to life, collaborating with Members to tackle challenges, implement solutions, and create lasting change in your community. You’ll also reflect on your journey, celebrate your achievements, and prepare for the next steps in your academic and personal growth. With personalized support for college applications, scholarships, and future planning, you’ll leave the program equipped with the confidence, skills, and legacy of leadership to carry forward into college and beyond.

Now that the cohort has successfully executed their project, Fellows gather feedback from participants, partners, and community members to refine and strengthen their work. With these insights, they collaborate with existing community partners to ensure the initiative’s long-term sustainability.
Having led a full project lifecycle, Fellows then transition into Member roles. In this capacity, they leverage their firsthand experience and expertise to guide the next cohort—offering practical advice, sharing lessons learned, and mentoring the new class of leaders. This cycle ensures that knowledge, connections, and best practices are passed on, fostering a continuous legacy of impact.
