MEMBERS

As a NewComm Member, you play a vital role in driving community change. Recruited by Fellows, you’ll join a collaborative team dedicated to designing, executing, and sustaining a $10,000 project that addresses local needs. This is your opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while gaining access to resources, social partnerships, and learning opportunities within the NewComm ecosystem.

Why join as a Member?

NewComm Members are essential to the success of our projects. You’ll work closely with Fellows and Community Partners, providing important perspectives and insights that enhance the project’s impact. In return, Members are “compensated” through access to NewComm’s network, resources, and educational opportunities. This experience enables you to:

Expand Your Network: Engage with community leaders, professionals, and peers who share a passion for making a difference.

Develop New Skills: Participate in hands-on project work that sharpens your skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and community engagement.

Benefit from Social Partnerships: Access resources and support that help you grow both personally and professionally.

As a Member, you are also part of a broader community of students across NYC, all committed to personal growth, academic success, and social justice. By participating in monthly Town Halls, virtual meetups, and social programming, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with peers, share stories, and contribute to projects that reflect your passions and your community’s needs.

1. Town Hall Sessions

Monthly Town Hall sessions are the heart of the NewComm Member experience. This is where Members meet with Fellows to hear updates on their projects, brainstorm solutions, and lend their talents to move projects forward. Whether it’s finding community partners, organizing a social media campaign, or researching local resources, Town Hall sessions give you the chance to leave a legacy in your community.

2. Workshops and Skill-Building Sessions

Throughout the year, we host workshops on everything from financial literacy to SAT strategies, equipping you with practical skills for success in school and life. These sessions are designed to supplement your learning and prepare you for whatever path you choose.

3. Social Programming

Being a Member is about more than just hard work. From dinners and field trips to mentor meetups and fun social events, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to relax, connect, and grow alongside your peers.

4. Project Support and Development

Each year, Members play a crucial role in helping Fellows execute their $10,000 community projects. Whether it’s through research, planning, or on-the-ground work, your contributions help ensure the success of these initiatives, making a direct impact in the Bronx and beyond.
